Series: Forgotten Heroes of the American Revolution
Book: Daniel Morgan: Fighting Frontiersman

Daniel Morgan Cover Book Summary
Daniel Morgan is a crucial figure in the story of American independence. A forceful and inspiring leader, he proved to be a skilled tactician in campaigns against the British throughout the colonies. His unit of riflemen from the Virginia frontier played a key role in the Patriot success at Saratoga in 1777, a major victory that helped bring France into the war on the American side. But perhaps his greatest moment came as the Patriots' hopes were at their lowest point. In January 1781, with his outnumbered army cornered by a crack British unit, Morgan won the most decisive battle of the war. His victory at Cowpens put into motion a chain of events that would end nine months later, with the surrender of the British general Cornwallis at Yorktown.
